AION 2 Classes: All 8 Launch Classes
The global launch roster — roles, weapons and learning curves for every class, from the only tank to the only main healer. Every character starts as an Adventurer and commits to one of these eight through the early story.

Scarce-Role Classes
Two classes are scarce roles: every serious party needs exactly one of each, and supply never catches up with demand. Templars and Clerics queue into weekly Sanctuary runs and Conquest lobbies faster than any DPS.
| Class | Role | Weapon | Learning Curve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Templar | Tank | Sword & Shield | Moderate |
| Cleric | Main Healer | Mace | Gentle to pick up, demanding to master |
Damage Classes
Five classes fill DPS slots, split between melee and ranged. The melee pair differs on execution; the ranged trio differs on damage profile — sustained physical, burst magic, or summon-led.
| Class | Role | Weapon | Learning Curve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Melee DPS | Greatsword | Gentle |
| Assassin | Melee DPS | Daggers | Demanding |
| Ranger | Ranged DPS | Bow | Moderate |
| Sorcerer | Magic DPS | Spellbook | Moderate |
| Spiritmaster | Summoner DPS | Orb | Demanding |
The Buff Support
The Chanter is its own category: party-wide enhancements plus respectable melee, welcome in any composition and self-sufficient enough to level comfortably alone.
| Class | Role | Weapon | Learning Curve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chanter | Buff Support | Staff | Moderate |
How Class Selection Works
You do not pick a class in the character creator. Every character starts as an Adventurer — a shared starter that teaches the basics — and commits to one of the eight classes through an early story quest. The choice is a real commitment: there is no confirmed free re-class system at launch. Factions (Elyos and Asmodians) run on separate servers but share an identical class roster, so the faction choice is aesthetic and community, not gameplay.
