AION 2 Templar Class Guide
Role in the Party
The Templar is the roster's only true tank: it holds threat, sets the pace of pulls, and stands between the boss and everyone else. Every serious dungeon party needs exactly one, and only one class can fill the slot — which is why Templars rarely wait for invites, in weekly Sanctuary runs or the Conquest ladder alike.
Playstyle
Sword-and-shield fundamentals: you position the boss, rotate defensive cooldowns, and read the encounter so the DPS never have to. The trade-off for guaranteed invites is responsibility — a bad pull or a missed reposition is everyone's problem. Combat sits on tab-target foundations with action-game elements, so timing your mitigation windows matters more than button speed.
Leveling to 45
Durability makes the story route painless: fewer deaths, fewer consumables, steady progress through the main quest that carries you to the level-45 endgame wall. Damage output is modest, so solo kills are slower than a Gladiator's — the payoff is that every group system the moment you queue for it.
Progression Notes
Gear iLvl matters as much for the tank as for anyone else: the Conquest tier gates (700 / 1,400 / 2,100 / 2,800 / 3,000 aggregate item level) check your whole character, and shields count. See the gear progression guide for the iLvl ladder and the milestones hub for every unlock on the road to 45.
Recommended PvE Build
For dungeon and Conquest PvE, the Templar build prioritizes survivability and threat generation: stack HP and defense stats on gear, pick skills that generate threat on multiple targets (the wide-arc swings and the taunt rotation), and keep a defensive cooldown queued for every boss damage phase. The build is straightforward because the role is narrow — you are not competing for DPS, you are competing for uptime. Spend enhancement stones on the shield and chest first (the two biggest defense slots), then spread the rest across the remaining armor pieces.
